OBEY THE LAW
Everyone riding with Team Revolution shall obey the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. Follow traffic lights. Stop at stop signs. Signal your turns.
Equipment
Every member of Team Revolution is required to ride a bike that is mechanically sound and in very good condition, wear a helmet and proper clip in shoes. Aerobars are not allowed.
RIDE TIGHT AND TO THE RIGHT
Ride as close to the right side of the road as it is safe to do. Never cross the yellow line or ride into on-coming traffic.
PASS ON THE LEFT
As you approach a cyclist, let them know you’re there. Tell them you will be passing and always pass on the left.
NO MORE THAN 2 BY 2
When riding in a group, ride no more than 2 people wide. In heavily trafficked areas and on hilly roads, always ride single file.
CALL OUT HAZARDS
When riding in a group, always call out hazards. Point at potholes and move safely 18” to 24” to the left or right of the pothole or hazard. Shout “Car Back” or “Car Up” if cars are passing or approaching.
NO PASSING ON HILLS
Whether uphill or downhill, there shall be no passing on hills. If you want to go faster, move to the front before the hill. Use your brakes-that’s the reason you have them.
BE CAREFUL IN THE RAIN
Wet conditions cause slick conditions. Avoid riding on painted road surfaces and manhole covers. They get slippery when wet.
STAY BACK OF VEHICLES
Use caution when stopped at intersections with large vehicles. Assume they can’t see you. Try to stay 10m back from the rear of all vehicles.
NO HALF WHEELING
When riding in a group, do not overlap your front wheel with the rear wheel of the rider in front of you.
FIND YOUR PACE
There are cyclists of every level on Team Revolution. Challenge yourself or take it easy, but find the right paced group. Don’t force groups to speed up or slow down for your pace.
FOCUS ON RIDING
Look ahead. Use common sense when grabbing a water bottle or energy bar. Don’t turn and talk while you are riding with someone.
HOLD YOUR LINE
When riding in a group and turning, remember to stay on the same path. Don’t cut people off beside you or behind you.
ASK FOR ADVICE
If you are new to cycling in a group, don’t be afraid. Ask for advice. Stay to the back until you are comfortable and gain experience.
BE COURTEOUS AND POLITE
No matter what you see on the road, always be respectful. Remember that everything you do reflects on Team Revolution, the hospital and your colleagues in the group.
NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND
No matter the pace, no single rider shall be left alone. If the pace is too strong or a rider is not feeling well, another group member shall always accompany the rider home.
